CONNIE CABRERA Born February 2, 1928, Corona, CA. The grandmother of six and great-grandmother of six passed away on October 16, 2013. Preceded in death by her children Sandra Garcia and Sam Salinas; survived by her daughter Linda Salinas-Thompson. Graveside service will be held on October 30 at 2:30 PM at Hermosa Gardens Cemetery, 900 Meridian Ave, Colton, CA. The family respectfully declines flowers.

COURTNEY RONEA DIXON Suddenly early Saturday, August 31, 2013, Courtney Ronea Dixon departed this earth. She was born January 18, 1988. A graduate of Riverside Poly High School, she was a member of the Varsity Basketball Team and Marching Band. She achieved her Associate Degree, June 2013 from Riverside City College and was enrolled at Cal State San Bernardino this fall to complete her Bachelors Degree in Entrepreneur Business Management. Courtney was employed for six years at Fed Ex Office as Center Lead Consultant, where she received the Purple Promise Award for outstanding customer service. This is the highest award offered by the company and selected by the CEO. She also worked on Riverside Mayor Rusty Bailey's campaign for election. She leaves to mourn her parents Neal and Dorothy (Tracey) Dixon; sister and brother-in-law Nicole Lynn and Rahhem Bonner of Riverside and Fontana, CA; maternal grandparents Herbert and Priscilla Smith of Scottsdale, AZ, and paternal grandparent Gladys Dixon of Pittsburgh, PA; niece Terri Traneal Bonner; also survived by three uncles, four aunts, and a host of cousins; and abundance of friends whom loved her dearly. We all will cherish her memory. RaDena LaVonne Walker was born December, 7th, 1970, Fontana, California to June Ann Baxter and William Walker. She went to Van Buren pre-school to the Elementary. Then moved to East Riverside, where RaDena attended Longfellow Elementary and was in the GATE program. In the last fourteen years of RaDenas life, she worked at a private school as the head teacher and head director, winning several awards in her field. RaDena had a soft, strong, and loving heart for others always putting herself aside to help others. RaDena is survived by her mother, June Baxter, her three sisters; LaRisha , Sheila Walker, and Teddiann Adams. Her uncle John and four cousins; Brenda Ball (deceased),Shannon, Dermaine Ball and Jennifer Washington. Many other extended family members and close friends who she truly loved.

Will Lisby was 96 and the second oldest of the of Lisby's brother.   Will Lisby was born on September 23, 1916 to the proud parents of George Sr. and Leana Lisby.  He was the second of six children. His parents and all siblings, (1)-George Jr., (3) -Robert, (4)-Alexander Sr., (5)-Leana and (6)-Jearlean, preceded him in death. Will attended Madison Parish Training School in Tallulah, Louisiana where he completed the 10th grade. In the same yare he was baptized by Rev. J.J. Bell at Mount Olive Baptist Church in Tallulah. At age of fourteen, he left home and moved to Leola, Mississippi when he worked on the Mississippi River Boats. He later move back home to Tallulah where he work at the Oil Mill. In 1041, he met a beautiful girl named Jessie. To this union they had one daughter, Brenda. Will and Jesse raised Jessie?s five nieces and nephew; Jesse, Ernest, Helen and Ernestine who preceded him in death and Gwen. He later married Mattie Bell Clemons, who preceded him in death. He liaves to cherish his memories his dedicated daughter Brenda, his faithful son-in-law Ray, his devoted grandson Kevin; two sister-in-laws; Nettie Walton of Milwaukee and Ara Lisby of Riverside; five very dear and close nieces ?Lillie Travis of Tallulah, Peggy Crape and Delores Walton of Milwaukee, Jearlin Lisby Ball of Riverside and Gwen Kincy of Los Angeles: and host of nieces, nephew, cousins and friends.

He was a Staff Sergeant in the USAF for 20 years. One of our Community Brothers Wendell Cooper passed away on July 7, 2013 in Riverside.  Born on October 7, 1957 - July 7,2013.  Parents was Curtis and Viola Cooper, Wendell was the youngest of six childrens.
He was cremated and had a private burial. He died with COPD (Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease).  
 
His sister, Joyce Walker (Cooper) publicly announcement to the community;
"Please don't smoke!!"
 
On behalf of the entire community, please accept our deepest sympathy. The community was fortunate to have gotten to know Wendell and to have been able to enjoy our time with him for so many years.

GLEN SUEL 7/8/1949 - 7/13/2013 Glen was born in Columbus, OH and passed away in San Diego, CA. He was a resident in Colorado Springs, CO for the last 20 years. Glen was a graduate from Riverside Poly High School in 1967 and was in the Air Force Reserves from 1967-1973 at March Air Force Base. He later earned his Bachelor of Arts degree at CSU Northridge. He had a successful trucking business and was able to use this to be a witness to the Lord Jesus Christ. Glen leaves to cherish his memory his loving wife Sharon; son Eric Stewart; daughters Shannon Williams, Sharlyn Crump, Tiffany Coleman, Lindsay Bellamy, Kelly Williams; sister Judy Suel; brothers George (Sonia) Suel Jr, Tim (Laura) Suel; 16 grandchildren and a host of relatives and many friends. LILLIAN REID-LINDSEY Lillian Reid-Lindsey was born in Summerville, South Carolina, the second of seven children born to Rev. and Mrs. Enoch McQueen. She is a product of the Charleston, SC public school system. She joined Amos Temple CME Church in 1978, prior to that she belonged to Allen Chapel AME Church, Riverside, CA. She was a two term president of the Stewardess Board at Amos Temple. Ms. Reid-Lindsey was a member of the Missionary Society and also served on the Pastor's Aide Committee at Amos. Lillian graduated from Riverside Community College Nursing Department and worked as a nurse at Riverside General Hospital for many years. She earned a Bachelor's of Arts Degree in Human Services from California State University, San Bernardino, California. Further study at Cal. State earned her a Designated Subject Teaching Credential in Health and Applied Subjects. The last ten years of her employment was done at Patton State Hospital, as a Psychiatric Technician Supervisor, and at Valley College Nursing Department as a part-time instructor. Lillian is a widow and the mother of three children. She is survived by two brothers, Robert McQueen & Isaac McQueen and her son, William Henderson; and daughters, Gayle Reid and Lisa Amenwahsu; as well as a host of nieces and nephews. She was retired and a world traveler, which she enjoyed very much. BERNARDINO A. SORIA Age 81, entered eternal life on July 10, 2013. He was born on 10/2/1931. He was a lifetime resident of Riverside, CA. Bernie graduated from old Poly High School in 1949. He began working at food machinery and Chemical Corporation in 1952, then employed by ROHR Industries Riverside in 1957, where he became involved in the I.A.M. Union and later became a Union Representative. Then he retired from ROHR Industries after 37 years in 1992. He was a devoted husband to his late wife Evelyn Pino Soria, a caring father to his 3 daughters, Ruby, Diana, and Bernardine Soria and a great grandfather to his only grandson, Bernardino Marin.

CLARENCE JEROME ELLIS SR. Born in Charleston, West Virginia on December 2, 1941, passed away in Riverside, CA on June 23, 2013, at the age of 71. Clarence served honorably for 2 years as a paratrooper in the United States Army as a young adult. He made his home in Riverside, CA since 1965. He retired as a Lieutenant from the State of California, Department of Corrections after more than 24 years of service. Clarence was a faithful member of A.K. Quinn AME Church in Moreno Valley, CA. He was preceded in death by his parents, John & Isadora Ellis, and his baby sister Nova Ann (Ellis) Jackson. Clarence leaves to cherish his memories his loving wife of 40 years, Patricia M.       Ameal Moore, three-term Riverside City Councilman (1994-2006), died peacefully in his home April 29, 2013 after a courageous three-year battle with cancer. He was surrounded by love from his wife of 56 years.  Henrietta, and their sons, Moore was born in Camp Rowlin, a logging town in southern Mississippi in 1034, the youngest of five sons, two dauhters, Elizabeth and Vera, later joined the Moore family ranks.
       Ameal Moore is survived by his wife Henrietta; his sons Jeffery Ameal Moore (Tyanna, spouse), Derwin Stephen Moore (Patricia, spouse), and Carl Edward Moore; grandsons Stephen Ameal Moore, Nkoisi Mbonis Moore, and Julian Angel Moore and granddaughter Lindsay Charee Moore; brother Arthur Moore and sisters Elizaleth Daniels and Vera Mae Bullock.  He was preceded in death by his parents Sephen and Margaret Ann Moore and his brothers Curtis Moore, Caldwell Moore, Ivory Moore, and Oneal Moore (a Louisiana deputy sheriff killed by night riders in 1965)

Will was born on April 14, 1918 in Hanna, LA to Belle Williams. He was a member of Wayman Chapel African Methodist Episcopal Church in Houston, TX and baptized in the name of the Father and the Son on April 23, 1995. He attended Rosedale High School (LA), subsequently worked as a Concrete Puddler and General Laborer. He enlisted n the Army Air Force in 1942, and remained a member of the Air Force until his retirement n 1964. DELBERT W. BRANOM Born on June 19, 1921 in Bristow, Oklahoma, was the sixth of eleven children. He was employed as a machinist at McDonald Douglas Aircraft in Long Beach, Ca. After his retirement he was a Crossing Guard for the City of Riverside. Delbert made his peaceful transition on May 27, 2013 leaving a wife, Beverly, stepson Jason; a daughter, Deleta D. Corley and grandson. Surviving sisters Letha Bryant and Esther B. Moore and a host of nephews and nieces. Planning a Birthday Celebration for family, friends and neighbors. He donated his body to Bodies for Science Division of Human Anatomy, Loma Linda University, Loma Linda, Ca. 92350.

EMMA COOPER CHESTNUT Devoted Mother and Grandmother May 29, 1926 - August 27, 2013 On Tuesday, August 27 at approximately 2:41pm, Emma Cooper Chestnut, wife of the late Edward Theodore Chestnut, died at the age of 87 years old in her home in Riverside, California. She is survived by one daughter, one god daughter, four grandchildren and a host of nieces and nephews. Emma Cooper Chestnut, who was known to many as Mother Chestnut, Aunty Emma, Missemma, T- Emma, Muh and Miss, was a true disciple of the Gospel of Jesus Christ, who's footprints will continue to lay in the hearts and on the minds of those who were blessed by her nurturing spirit. To our Grandpa passing on April 6, 2913 Alexander Lisby, was born on Joan Plantation, Louisianan Noverber 27, 1919.  He was inducted into U.S. Army therefore; report to the Local Board at Tallulah, Louisianan at 8:30am. Alexander Lisby did six (6) combat missions in the pacific ( Battle of Bogansville, Manila and Guada Canal) , station in the Philippines and married Felicidad (Fely) Lara Scora Gonzales and to this union there were five children (two daughters and three sons). Transferred to Guam, and Germany until 1948 received a World War II Victory Medial and other decorations.
 
After the war moved to Los Angeles, California with his five children. Alexander enlisted into U.S. Air Force in1948 assigned to March AFB Riverside, later became Sergeant Alexander Lisby, Med. SV Specialist Technician in medical group at March AFB until 1960's. Decorations and citations: Asiatic-Pacific Theater Ribbon, American Defense Ribbon, Good Conduct Medal and record decorations. Alexander Lisby leaves to cherish his memory, survived by his wife Ara Lisby; Oldest brother Will Lisby from Los Angeles , California . He was well known to many. Husband, Father, Grandfather, Great Grandfather, friend & Service Man.  Grandpa, would call and ask to bake him a banana cake or turnip greens / Bar B Q (his special dish.)
 
We will all miss those delightful calls from him. He loved golfing, grandpa adored taking his grandkids, nephews, and neighborhood children to the golf courses and teaching us to play golf. Occasionally joking, hoping in the future that one of his kids would be another Tiger Woods, for some of us it was a joy able experiences.
 
Before his retirement from the military in the late 50's, he had started fixing up cars and selling to the service personnel's on the base. Also, he?d been well-known in the community for many years in helping many families and friends, in fixing their cars without cost or barters for their services, (exchange for electrical work, yard work, house painting, meals and/or purchasing a car from him and making time payments).

ANNIE MAE RUFF BIG MAMA Passed away on April 23, 2013 at the age of 90. She was born in Ashland, AL to George and Mary Thomas. She lived in Riverside, CA for the past 45 years and in Ripley, CA for 13 years prior to that. MR. RAY J. WALKER, CHIEF DEPUTY WARDEN I have fought a good fight, I have finished the course, I have kept the faith. (2 Timothy 4:7) Ray J. Walker was ushered into the world by God on July 8, 1937 and he crossed the finishing line of life on April 23, 2013 at Kaiser Permanente Hospital in Ontario, California. He is the second oldest child of Willie Mae Clark Taylor. Ray J. grew up in a paper mill town with his dearly beloved mother, grandmother, sisters, and brothers. Upon graduating in 1956 from Central Memorial High School in Louisiana, he joined the United States Army and received an honorable discharge. Later he attended Riverside City College where he received an Associate of Arts Degree and California Baptist University in Riverside, California. Because of his background in Criminal Justice, he became a guest instructor at Riverside City College. Ray J. married his high school sweetheart, Joan Bennett Cyrus and was married for forty-seven years prior to her death on December 30, 2003. Two children were born to this union, Dwain Todd and Sabrina Hope. Ray J. married Barbara Grove on March 1, 2006. Wherever Ray J. and his family resided, they reunited with a church and worked as servants in God's vineyard. The Holy Spirit led them to Second Baptist Church in Paso Robles, California; Greater Faith Church in Stockton, California, and Park Avenue Missionary Baptist Church, Riverside, California. Ray J. was briefly employed by California Department of Youth Authority before being hired by California Department of Corrections. During his tenure with the Department of Corrections, he worked in many capacities at several penal institutions. Due to hard work, good leadership skills, intellect, dedication and tenacity he promoted to the following classifications: Correctional Sergeant, Lieutenant, Counselor I, II & III, Program Administrator, Associate Warden and Chief Deputy Warden. After thirty-two years of state service, he retired in 1991 to enjoy his "golden" years. However, he discovered that he had plenty of energy and so he went to work for Juvenile Hall in San Bernardino, California. Ray J. lived well and laughed often by the grace of God. Life's journey has taken him from labor to reward and in the presence of God. Ray J. was preceded in death by his wife, Joan Bennett Cyrus Walker, daughter, Sabrina Hope Walker Jamerson; mother, Willie Mae Clark Taylor; and grandmother, Henrietta Dyson. MYRA S. PARKER-HUMPHREY Myra passed away on March 10, 2013 in Riverside, California from complications due to Parkinson's disease. Born in Colon, Panama, June 20, 1940 she came of age in New York City where she started a family and studied fashion design at the Fashion Institute of Technology. In 1976 she moved to Riverside, California and pursued higher education completing a Bachelor's degree in Business Management from Cal Poly Pomona in 1983. She became a quality control engineer at General Electric where she supervised the production of turbine jet engines, one of the only women in this position. Upon retirement she and husband James Humphrey opened Shades of Art, a gallery, a mainstay in downtown Riverside for 15 years. When Shades of Art closed its doors in 2007 they moved to Surprise, AZ where Myra became an active member of the Red Hats and was treated at the Muhammad Ali Parkinson's Center in Phoenix, AZ. Myra was well known for her glamour, generosity, and delightful personality. She was well loved and will be missed. Myra is survived by husband James Humphrey; children Suzette Parker Cruz Sayles, Samantha Parker, Rodney Parker Jr., stepson Aaron Humphrey; son-in law Dijuan Sayles; grandchildren Quinn Cruz, Kush Parker-Cooke, Avery Sayles, Madison Parker, Brooklyn Parker; great grandchild Noah Evan Cruz; siblings Yolanda De Leon, Leopoldo Mandeville, Armanda Weeks; numerous nieces, nephews, brothers and sisters in law. Dr. Horace Jackson died on January 28,2013. Dr.Jackson, was the first black full time principal in the Riverside Unified School District. He served as a principal at University Heights Junior High School from 1968 to 1970, and at John W. North High School from 1970 to 1976. Dr. Jackson served as Superintendent of Val Verde Unified School District.Also, Dr. Johnson served as a principal at Perris High School and Montclair High School. Also, Dr. Jackson served as a trustee on the San Berndino Community College District.
 
Dr. Jackson grew up in the Phoenix, Arizona area. He earned his bachelor's degree from Arizona State, his master degree from USC ,and his doctorate degree in education from United States International University.

KARLENE JOYCE TAYLOR Age 64, died at her home on Friday, March 1, 2013 in Riverside, California. She was born in Riverside, California on May 11, 1948, the daughter of Lawrence "Pete" and Steffi Joyce Taylor. Karlene graduated high school in Riverside, starting at Poly High enjoying swimming and water ballet and ending upon her graduation in the "Future Farmers of America" program at John W. North High, class of 1966. Upon graduation she spent a year at U.C. Riverside before transferring to U.C. Davis where she completed her B.S. and teaching credentials in Animal Husbandry and Horticulture. Her teaching career took her from Santa Rosa H.S. to Fontana H.S. and finally Arlington H.S. until she resigned in 1980 deciding to pursue a career with the Santa Fe Railroad thus hoping to someday become an engineer. This was not meant to be, however, and she struck out on her own venture of K/J Taylor Trucking, Inc., whereby she traveled the cities and states with her partner, Al, seeing new places, meeting new people and making new friends. Her hobbies were swimming, photography, cars, her horse "LB", her parrots, cats and wild birds. She was a loving and giving person. Her family and friends were her life and she will be deeply missed by all. Karlene is survived by her companion, Albert Lane; sister Sharon Taylor Eckles (Ed); half-brother, Wayne (Sharron) Manick; sister-in-law, Debbie Taylor; nieces Jamie Taylor Castillo (Henry) and Brittney Taylor; nephews, Michael Taylor (Kris); Andrew "A.J." OLLIE M. SLOAN Sunrise September 23, 1936 - Sunset February 3, 2013 Sister Ollie Sloan was born September 23, 1936 in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania to the late Emmett and Carrie Hartsfield. She was the third born of five children. Ollie confessed and loved Jesus Christ at an early age because she was raised in a Christian home. She was united in Holy Matrimony to Chalmers Sloan and raised seven children: Wanda Dada, Arletha Dabney, Beverly Dabney, Belinda Leonard, Jeffrey Sloan, Frank Sloan and Aaron Sloan. OFFICER MICHAEL CRAIN Officer Michael Crain was born in Anaheim, California to Stephen and Cindy Crain on April 9, 1978. He was the oldest of three children and had a brother, Jason, and sister, Leslie. He was raised in the Riverside area and graduated from Redlands High School in 1996. After high school, Mike attended Crafton Hills College in Yucaipa for a year prior to enlisting in the United States Marine Corps. He served two deployment tours in Kuwait as a rifleman in the 15th Marine Expeditionary Unit, 3rd Battalion 1st Marines. He was a squad leader, and was promoted to the rank of Sergeant. He was then stationed at Camp Pendleton in Oceanside, CA, where he taught Military Operations in Urban Terrain. During his military service, Mike was awarded the Good Conduct Medal, the Armed Forces Expeditionary Medal, the Sea Service Deployment Ribbon with 1 star, a Certificate of Commendation, and the Rifle Marksmanship Badge. After being honorably discharged from the Marine Corps, Mike joined the Riverside Police Department. He graduated from the Riverside Sheriff's Academy, class #152, and was sworn in as a Riverside Police Officer on August 24, 2001. Following his graduation from the Field Training Program, he was assigned to Field Operations as a patrol officer. During his 11 year tenure with the Riverside Police Department, Mike served as a patrol officer, and was assigned to the Special Weapons and Tactics (SWAT) Team. He had also served as a Helicopter Observer, a Field Training Officer, a Firearms Instructor, and had been assigned to the University Neighborhood Enhancement Team (UNET). Mike had a big heart, and enjoyed spending time with his wife, Regina, son, Ian (age 10), and daughter Kaitlyn (age 4). He loved attending dance recitals with his daughter and coaching his son's baseball team. He also loved his classic 1970 Chevy Nova, which he spent his spare time restoring. Mike's family and friends knew his usually straight face hid a huge personality. He made an unforgettable impression on everyone he met. During the early morning of February 7, 2013, Officer Michael Crain was gunned down in an apparent ambush while he was on patrol and parked at a stop light with a trainee officer. Mike will be missed by his family, friends, and his community. A public tribute to Officer Michael D. Crain will be held on Wednesday, February 13, 2013 at 10:30 a.m. at The Grove Community Church located at 19900 Grove Community Drive, Riverside, California 92508. WILLIAM HUGH ALEXANDER William Hugh Alexander was born to Bruce and Helen Alexander on February 4, 1945 in St. Louis, MO. He was raised in Riverside along with his older brothers Bruce and David, and excelled as a swimmer at Riverside Poly High School graduating in 1962. He attended San Diego State University and launched a successful career in sales for 14 years at IBM after college. Bill had two children, Michele and Kevin, from his first marriage. In 1972, he married Beverly, his devoted wife of 40 years, and gained two more daughters, Cosette and Cheryl. Bill was an entrepreneur at heart and a consummate optimist. Among many ventures, he co-founded 800-Flowers in the early 1980's, and served as a top executive at software firms in Dallas and outside Washington, D.C. over 20 years. Bill had a passion for renovating all things old, including their home and wooden boats. He was a true Renaissance man. In 2003, Bill and Beverly returned to Riverside to retire, spend more time with friends and their seven grandchildren, and focus on Bill's last project - their home in Canyon Crest. He died unexpectedly of heart complications on Jan. 19, 2013.

ROBERT L. FULCHER Age 94, passed away on Jan. 9, 2013 at a hospital in Fontana, CA. He was born on Jan. 26, 1918 in Taylortown, Louisiana and was a resident of Riverside for 13 years, previously of Perris, CA for 24 years. He worked for Douglas Aircraft for 28 years and after retirement worked for Riverside County and was self employed for 11 years. He proudly served in the army during World War II and the Korean War and received the Asiatic Pacific Campaign Medal with 1 Bronze Star; Philippine Liberation Ribbon, Good conduct Medal, and World War II Victory Medal. He was a member of the Eureka Lodge #3, NAACP life member and NCNW, Lions International, and was a 33 degree Mason. Robert was survived by his wife Johnnie Fulcher of Riverside, CA; sons, Larry Fulcher of Sun City, AZ, Charles Brown of Compton, CA; sisters Ida Finister of Los Angeles, CA and Leslie Williams of Corona, CA; brothers Lugene Fulcher of Fontana, CA and Adolphus Fulcher of Lakewood, CA; 7 grandchildren and 13 great grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews and cousins..
