Great website. Graduated 67 from Poly High and ran cross country, played basketball, and track and field with many of the folks listed here. Really sorry to hear about the loss of many friends that I went to school with but also glad to see a number of them are still going strong. Currently am in Little Rock AR.. graduated from UCR with my chemistry degree and chair and professor here - after doing 30 years in Dept. of Energy Labs as a Senior Chemist in NY, NM, and IL.. Was in Chicago when Dusty Baker was manager of the Cubs and still have a photo of me and a number of the folks on your site from the Central Jr. High flag football team.. hard to believe over 50 yrs ago. Still remember when we split and folks ended up at North and the New Poly. Am now at Univ. of Arkansas at Little Rock working to educate the next generation in chemistry and environmental science. But still have a lot of memories about Riverside Sports and playing basketball with Leemond Jones, and others.Best wishes and thoughts for all and thanks for sharing your photos and links on the web.

Wow!!  Riverside Family!!  Was on the internet trying to find info on recent death of Glen Suel and found the Riverside Community/Family Website.  Such memories..looking at pictures..remembering when.  Donna Jones of 2808 Prospect Avenue, Riverside.  My father, Eddie Jones, got us all started riding motorcycles from Skip Fordyce.  And Leemond Jones' younger sister.  I attended St Francis de Sales Catholic Girls HS.  Jill Bartee and Laverne Miller were my best buds.  How I miss you/saw your pics and you all look good.  Living in LA since 1974.  Nurse Practitioner and School Nurse.  When is the next family reunion picnic?  Can I come?  Please let me know.  Looking forward to seeing everybody.

This is a very nice community/neighborhood web site!

It’s wonderful to see some pictures of so many men I went to Poly High with almost fifty years ago, or played summer baseball with as a boy. Though my mom lives in Riverside and I visit her, I moved away a long time ago. I knew of course that Bobby Bonds had passed but didn’t learn until recently that Stan Davis was gone. And now I feel surprised and saddened to see how many other young men I knew have passed: Harold Rutledge, Bub Ferrell, Harold Thomas and JJ Hall.

I have especially fond memories of Stan Davis who was a marvelous pitcher and a very nice guy. Stan was a gifted athlete in high school and had a brief career in the major leagues, but if there was room in the Riverside Sports Hall of fame for spectacular local youth baseball excellence, his seven Little League no-hitters should put him there. Stan was a genuine Little League prodigy!
The first time I heard of Stan was one evening when I was twelve years old. I was walking from the Little League field over to the big diamond at the old Evans Park and passed a bunch of older guys laughing and horsing around. One of the guys called me over – it was Bobby Bonds, who said something like, “You’re a pretty good pitcher but you’re no Stan Davis!” “Who’s Stan Davis?” I answered. “You don’t know Stan Davis?! What’s wrong with you? Stan Davis has thrown seven no-hitters!” I don’t recall what I said to that information, but I do know I jumped on my bike a few days later and rode over to Patterson Park to see the amazing pitcher who’d thrown seven no-hitters.
Bub Farrell and Stan Davis were starting players on Poly’s 1964-65 varsity basketball team, along with JJ Hall, who has also passed.
I like the “then and now” page, where I can see that Bill Baker and Richard Cook look youthful still, even in their white beards. I had to shave mine off so people would stop referring to me as my wife’s father. When I saw Richard’s photo, instant memories came back of him running into a steel pole trying to catch a curving foul ball I hit down the left field line at the old Poly baseball field. I still feel bad about that…
I want to also say that it was good to see a picture of Mel Gatson with whom I played on the Poly varsity baseball team, along with Harold Rutledge. When you look back fifty years on school days, it’s a little like looking at the earth from the moon, I suppose, because memories come as vivid events. Mel was a great drum major and I can still see him leading the Poly marching band down the field with great, marvelous strutting.  And, Mel was a wonderful left handed hitter, so I also have delightful memories of him bailing out while trying to hit some of my better lefty side-armed curve balls (I’ve repressed memories of Mel smacking my fastball for a hit, however.)
So, viewing your wonderful web site brought both sadness and pleasure to me.  The young men I knew who have passed live on in my fond memories. And, it certainly reminds me to try to make each day full and sweet, for life on earth is short. Thank you!

I like what I see,  I am sure the sons  (Mike & Jerry/Lacy) I  brought to CA to join their father (Lacy DeBerry-deceased/1995)  in 1970 will enjoy hearing from their classmates and friends.

The three younger sons vaguely remember the old homeplace.  560 Highlander Dr.

To the Bartee children I miss your father a ton.  even in the south, noone can make my hair look like he did.  His work was beautiful.
